Tear a playing card and stick a piece into the fan in the back of the computer, so it makes a loud noise when the fan turns on.
OR
Pour baby powder, corn starch, or copier toner powder into the fan when the computer is off. As soon as the fan comes on, a huge cloud will billow out.
